16 ouncescream cheese(softened to room temperature)
⅓cuplemon juice(freshly squeezed from 2 to 3 lemons)
14ounce cansweetened condensed milk
1pintfresh blueberries
2 pintsfresh raspberries
various types of sugar cookies and pretzel crisps as dippers
Instructions
In a medium mixing bowl, blend cream cheese with a hand mixer on high speed until creamy.
Add lemon juice and beat on high for a least 3 minutes. Scrape the sides of the bowl and mix again until there are no lumps.
Slowly add sweetened condensed milk and mix until dip is smooth.
Pour dip into a large round pie plate and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight. Before serving, decorate the top with blueberries to form the blue corner of the flag, then arrange rows of raspberries to create the red stripes (as shown in photo).
Serve with various sugar cookies and pretzel crisps as dippers.
Notes
For best results, refrigerate the dip overnight so it will be firm enough to decorate.
TO CREATE FLAG: Start at the top left hand side of the bowl and outline the corner with blueberries, then fill it in as shown in the photo. Make the red stripes by starting at the top with raspberries. Make a line of raspberries from left to right, then skip a row and make another line until you get to the bottom of the bowl.
Make sure to beat softened cream cheese before adding other ingredients to prevent lumps from forming.
This dip can be made ahead. Decorate the top just before serving.
You can use any citrus juice with this recipe. Try lime juice or orange to switch up the flavors.
Fresh squeezed juice gives you the best flavor, but bottled can be used in a pinch.
