  3. Make it Ahead: this spread tastes even better after sitting in the fridge for a day.

Knorr Spinach Dip is the ultimate classic dip, and it’s been a party staple as long as I can remember. But, did you know it’s also a great way to get kids to eat their vegetables?

Try serving it to your kids with a handful of carrot sticks and watch what happens. They’ll be dipping it up as fast as you can set out the broccoli florets and cucumber slices! As an added incentive, create a cute Bunny Spinach Dip Bread Bowl when spring rolls around. 🐰

Lighten it Up

If you want to make this dip healthier, it’s easy to lighten up with a light mayonnaise and Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. But for parties, I like to make this cold spinach dip with full-fat ingredients for optimal flavor satisfaction! 😁

Either way, it’s the perfect appetizer for holidays, potlucks, and game day, plus it goes great with other spreads like Smoked Salmon Dip and Hot Honey Wings Sauce.

How to Make Knorr Spinach Dip

  1. Thaw the spinach and squeeze out all of the water. Add spinach to a colander. Using a cheesecloth or paper towel, press the spinach until no water remains. Set aside and allow to drain onto a plate while still in the colander.
  2. Add the sour cream, mayonnaise and Knorr® vegetable mix in a large bowl. Whisk until blended.
  3. Stir in the drained spinach and green onions until everything is mixed well. Refrigerate at least 1 hour, or over night in an airtight container.
  4. Give the mixture a stir before adding to a serving dish or bread bowl. Serve with carrot sticks, more veggies, or bread for dipping.

How to Carve a Bread Bowl

You can find round loaves of sourdough bread in most grocery stores that have a deli section, or at local bakeries. Insert a serrated knife in the top of the bread round about 1 inch from the top. Carve a circle within an inch of the edge, then remove the top lid.

Scoop the bread out of the loaf by pulling it with your fingers. Be sure to leave at least a 1 inch thick border all the way around the bowl (including the bottom) so it doesn’t leak.

Helpful Tips

  • Use thawed (and squeezed) frozen chopped spinach for the best results. You can use fresh spinach if it’s sautéed, but it can appear stringy and be hard to eat, especially during a party.
  • Make sure you completely squeeze out all of the water from the spinach before adding to the other ingredients. If you skip this step, your spread won’t turn out the way you intended.
  • Don’t forget to refrigerate your spinach dip before serving. I like to make mine ahead and keep in the fridge overnight. It needs a good stir before placing it in a bread bowl or decorative dish.

Serving Ideas

To get the party started, serve this classic spinach dip recipe with other spreads like Cottage Cheese Ranch Dip and fire-roasted Baba Ganoush. Provide dippers like crackers, pita chips, veggie sticks, cocktail tomatoes and bell peppers. You can even add cubes of bread torn from a bread bowl, slices of baguette, or chunky sourdough pretzels.

Make it Yours

  • Cut the fat: use plain yogurt and low fat mayo as substitutions for higher fat ingredients.
  • Add a little kick: try adding hot sauce, minced garlic, parmesan and artichokes to create a delicious spinach artichoke spread.
  • Turn it into a frittata: mix leftover spinach dip with beaten eggs and turn it into a spinach dip frittata!

Recipe FAQ

Do I have to cook the spinach first?

No, frozen spinach has already been blanched, so all you have to do is thaw it out and squeeze it well.

Can I freeze the leftovers?

Unfortunately, it’s not a good idea to freeze dips that contain a high dairy content. The sour cream and mayo will separate and the texture will change.

How far in advance can I make it?

You can make Knorr Spinach Dip up to 24 hours ahead of time. Keep it in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to serve. It’s even better when made ahead, so you don’t have to wear yourself out getting ready for a big event.

Storage Guide

  • Make Ahead: up to 1 day in advance and store in the fridge.
  • Leftovers: store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • Freezing: is not recommended due to the high dairy content.
